My take on a classic fish.

I learned to surf and shape about 15 minutes from where Steve Lis shaped and surfed the very first fish. Needless to say, fishes have been part of my surfing experience from the beginning. In fact, the very first board that I ever shaped was a fish. 

I’ve tried a lot of different design variations over the years. However, the design that I always seem to return to is the one that I shaped into that very first board:

• Rocker: Moderate/retro

• Foil: Foam forward, flat deck in the nose that gradually becomes more domed through the tail

• Contours: Rolled entry transitioning into a double concave under your front foot and finishing with a spiral vee in the last 1/3rd of the board.

• Rails: eggy and soft in the entry, modern medium/down through the middle, knifey down through the tail

This design sits down in the water and draws very smooth lines, plus provides the option for more aggressive turns by simply shifting your back foot over/behind the fins.

Tried and tested frontside and backside in everything from beach break mush to Indo barrels. A dream board for open faces.
